Despite the global financial crisis, Norwegian companies are showing great interest for Vietnam, which is considered a market with great potential. Vung Tau, a city where the oil related industry is heavily represented, is now attracting more Norwegian investors and businesses.
On the 26th of October, the Norwegian Ambassador, H. E. Mr. Risa, was present at the opening of the new facilities of Odim in Vung Tau. The Norwegian company has a leading position within offshore and naval markets, specializing on anchor- and cable handling. Another Norwegian company that has opened new facilities in Vung Tau is Goltens. This company is a provider of repair and maintenance services for the worldwide shipping market.
Other Norwegian companies active in Vietnam are STX-Europe and Brødrene Dahl. STX (former Aker Yards) is now building six offshore vessel for Norwegian owners, and Brødrene Dahl celebrated recently the opening of their new facilities in Vung Tau. The company plans to open another facility in Hai Phong in 2010. Two companies developing software, Promatica and Netpower, have recently established in HCMC. Within the marine sector, Pharmaq, Ewos and AkvaGroup have now co-located their activities to better make use of the synergy effects in their activities.
During his trip to Vung Tau, Ambassador Risa was able to get a first-hand impression of the high level of activity among Norwegian companies in Vietnam. He emphasized that there is great potential for continued cooperation between the two countries in the maritime sector, as well as in other business areas where Norwegian and Vietnamese business companies can build strong relationships.
