Travel Medical Insurance (TMI)

For all applicants applying for a short stay visa to Norway/Schengen, it is compulsory to hold travel medical insurance (TMI) in order to be granted a short stay visa (up to 90 days).

Applicants must hold a valid TMI to be granted a short stay visa (up to 90 days) for Norway/Schengen Area. The insurance must cover all Schengen countries for the whole period of stay, and should cover expenses of a minimum of 30 000 EURO. Applicants must show the original policy of their TMI and submit a copy of the policy with their visa application. The Embassy is not able to issue a visa until TMI has been checked and registered in our data system.

The applicant must be able to prove that he/she has a valid, personal medical travel insurance policy which covers the following costs in the Schengen Area:

  • Emergency Medical Treatment
  • Urgent Ambulance Transportation
  • Transportation back to the applicant’ s home country if required for medical reasons

Applicants who travel to the Schengen Area must bring the original medical travel insurance policy, as they might be asked to present these documents on any Schengen border.
