Types of visas, fees and handling time

Here you can read about the types of visas and permits you can apply for. There is also information about the handling fees and handling time for each type of application.

Short stay visas

§ Visa: gives the holder permission to travel to Norway/Schengen for a shorter stay of up to a maximum of 90 days

Fees as of 1 May, 2012

C - Short stay visa (one, two or multiple entries) for children between the age of 6 and 12 years old VND 970.000,- / EURO 35,- 15 working days

 

The following are exempted from fee for submitting application for short stay visa:

  • Children under 6 years of age
  • Pupils, students and their accompanying teachers if the purpose of the travel is studying or other training
  • Researchers from third countries travelling in Norway and the Schengen-area to do scientific research as defined by the European parliament and council recommendation.

Long stay permits

All types of long stay permit application will be decided by the Norwegian Directorate of Immigration in Oslo (UDI). For more information, see www.udi.no.

§ Work permit: entitles the holder to live and work in Norway. See also information for the employer in Norway.

§ Family reunification residence permit: means that a family member living abroad is allowed to come to Norway to live with one or more family members who already live or intend to live in Norway permanently. An entry visa of 7 days can also be issued for spouse and/or common child while waiting for a first time family reunification residence permit.

§ Residence permits for students: a foreign national who wishes to study in Norway may be granted a residence permit for this purpose.

The following are exempted from fee for submitting application for residence/work permit:

  • All EU/EEA nationals.
  • Children under the age of 18 years at the time the application is submitted.

The handling time of the various applications will depend on the case load. The handling time is calculated from the moment an application has been registered in the visa handling system. The short stay estimated handling time of 15 days may be impeded when there is high load of cases.

The case officer handling your application needs as much information as possible to process your application without difficulty. It is therefore important that you submit all required documents when applying for a visa.
