According to a decision made by the European Union, everyone who is granted a Schengen visa must have a Medical Travel Insurance Policy as of 1st June 2004. This means that the applicant must be able to prove that he has a valid, personal travel insurance policy which covers the following costs in the Schengen Area:
· Emergency Medical Treatment
· Urgent Ambulance Transportation
· Transportation back to the applicant’ s home country if required for medical reasons
· The Insurance should cover expenses of minimum of Euro 30.000.-
Applicants who travel to the Schengen Area must also bring the insurance policies (originals) together with their passports, as they might be asked to present these paper/documents on any Schengen border.
