Norwegian band toured Vietnam

Last updated: 20/01/2012 // Muringa is an up-and-coming Norwegian band playing improvised music. Just after releasing their first CD, "the unknown knowns", they recently toured Asia, and as part of that tour they played three concerts in Vietnam.

Muringa is a quartet consisting of Kim Fiskum Myhr (guitar, zither and devices), Klaus Ellerhusen Holm (alto saxophone and clarinet), Martin Taxt (tuba) and Tor Haugerud (percussion), playing improvised music.

As part of their tour of Asia, they played three concerts in Vietnam, and collaborated with local Vietnamese musicians along the way. As Muringa play improvised music, you never know exactly what to expect from them, but they describe their musical stile like this:

"The music can flow freely between fragile sounds and large, open spaces to densely articulated structures. The quartet can blend together in an undistinguishable mass of sound, but eventually someone will break out taking the music in a new direction. Muringa aim for clarity and precision unafraid of static patterns they may encounter in the flux. There are chords, melodies and rhythms but hopefully free of clichéd systems."

The group played in Ho Chi Minh City on 29 January, Da Nang on 30 January and Hanoi on 31 January.

For more information on the band and where they are playing in the future, please see band member Kim Myhr's website.
