Human Rights Dialogue between Vietnam and Norway

Last updated: 31/10/2011 // The annual Human Rights Dialogue between Vietnam and Norway took place in Oslo on 18 October 2010. Freedom of expression, the role of media and internet freedom, human rights defenders and capital punishment were among the topics discussed. The dialogue was conducted in an open and constructive atmosphere. On the occasion of the Dialogue, a Seminar for Technical Working Groups was organized, where Vietnamese and Norwegian technical experts contributed with insights on a number of relevant human rights issues.

The Vietnamese delegation was led by the Director General of the Vietnamese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Hoang Chi Trung, and the Norwegian delegation by State Secretary Gry Larsen from the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The ninth dialogue round was conducted in an open and constructive atmosphere and contributed to strengthening relations between the two countries. This year’s round was special as it also marked the 40th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Norway and Vietnam.

On the occasion of the official dialogue, a Seminar for Technical Working Groups was held, with a range of Vietnamese and Norwegian technical experts looking into issues related to gender equality, access to information and legal research and criminology. Issues dealt with in the Seminar will be followed up in ongoing project cooperation between the two countries.
