Norway supports public administration reform in Vietnam

Last updated: 11/02/2010 // Norway and Vietnam have a good cooperation on public administration reform (PAR). At a recent review meeting, the Embassy in Hanoi reaffirmed Norway’s continued engagement in PAR and poverty alleviation efforts in Vietnam through One UN.

The annual meeting of the Public Administration Reform (PAR) Project in Ninh Binh 26 January 2010 reviewed the project implementation 2009 and discussed the work plan 2010 and beyond.
Following up the success of phase I (1998-2003), the PAR project phase II (2006-2010) aims to support Ninh Binh province to implement its public administration reform under the framework of the National PAR Master Program 2001-2010 and the socio-economic development plan of Ninh Binh province up to 2010 through strengthening the effectiveness and efficiency of the local authorities on three levels. Total funding of phase II is up to 11,000,000 NOK. The project will come to its end by March 2011.

Successful project

The project has gained a wide acclaim for its successful model of inter-department one-stop-shop, the large participation of the communities in poverty alleviation efforts, as well as the endeavors in addressing gender mainstreaming and grassroots democracy issues.
Under the Strategy for Cooperation between Norway and Vietnam, Norway as a promoter of aid efficiency and One UN, will continue its support to public administration reform in Vietnam through the contribution to the One UN plan in Vietnam.
