The Festival (October - November 2006) includes staging Ibsen's plays, exhibition, publications on Ibsen and a seminar in Hanoi and HCMC.
29/11/2006 :: Ibsen was introduced in Vietnam in the early 1970s with translation of his welknown plays such as A Doll's House, Brand, Peer Gynt, Ghosts, The Wild Duck. It was, however until 2004 Vietnamese audience had pleasure to enjoy Ibsen's Hedda Gabler played by Vietnam Dramatic Theatre in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City.
In response to Ibsen Worldwide Year 2006, aiming to popularize Ibsen and his works in Vietnam, the Embassy in Hanoi has collaborated with Vietnamese theatres and cultural institutes to organise a Ibsen Festival in Vietnam 2006. The Festival includes staging Ibsen's plays, exhibition, publications on Ibsen and a seminar with representatives from Oslo. A meeting with students will also be organised at National University in Hanoi. The target group is not only be among professionals but also general audience, young writers, stage workers and students.
Following is the schedule of Ibsen Festival in Vietnam:
- Released bi-lingual books on Ibsen (Ibsen - life and works; excerpts from A Doll's House, Peer Gynt), The Gioi Publishers, March 2006.
- Released Van Nghe Journal - 36 pages special edition on Ibsen and Norwegian literature & art, 29 April - 6 May.
- Publication of Foreign Literature Review - 200 pages special review on Norwegian literature and Ibsen - No. 5, September.
- Performance of Hedda Gabler - a live show on VTV by Vietnam Dramatic Theatre, 28 October.
- Performance of A Doll's House , 1 - 5 November, Youth Theatre, 11 Ngo Thi Nham Str., Hanoi
- Exhibition "Ibsen in our time" at the Youth Theatre, 1 - 5 November; National Library - 8 - 10 November.
- Seminar "Ibsen in our time", 7 November, 19 Le Thanh Tong Str., Hanoi
- Ibsen and students - a meeting with representatives from Ibsen Centre, 6 November, Hanoi National University, 336 Nguyen Trai, Hanoi
- Performance of A Doll's House and Exhibition on Ibsen in Ho Chi Minh City - December (tentative) .
