H.E. Mr. Kjell Storløkken, new Ambassador to Vietnam arrived together with his wife Mrs. Olaug Storløkken in Hanoi on 9 September 2005. He was for the last three years Norway's Ambassdor to Zimbabwe. Following is his message:
14/09/2006 :: "I see it as a great honour and challenge to take up the assignment as Norwegian Ambassador to Vietnam. Vietnam and Norway established diplomatic relations in 1971, and since that time relations have developed very possitively in many areas. Norway opened the Embassy in Hanoi in 1996.
The State visit by King Harald and Queen Sonja in November last year further strengthened the relations, and laid a good foundation for even closer co-operation: politically, economically and commercially. Commercial co-operation and trade has so far been at a modest scale, but there is a growing interest on both sides to explore possibilities for stronger engagement.
I see it as a great challenge as a new ambassador to play my part in further strengthening the co-operation in all these areas. I am looking forward to establishing personal contacts with Vietnamese partners, political leaders, government representatives and representatives from various sectors of the society. The Embassy is prepared to play an active role in supporting Norwegian partners in their work in Vietnam. I hope that through this web-site, we will be able to provide updated information on Norway and our activities here".
