The processing time depends on a number of factors. Some applications are considered uncomplicated and can be handled at the Norwegian Foreign Service Mission. Other applications have to be sent to the Directorate of Immigration in Norway for a decision. Certain Schengen procedures may also, in some cases, influence the processing time. The case officer handling your application needs as much information as possible to process your application smoothly. It is therefore important that you submit all required documents when applying for a visa. Please, follow the appropriate check list for the type of purpose of your visit to Norway.

Incorrect/lacking information:                                                                                     Please note that incomplete applications or applications containing incorrect/inaccurate information, as well as applications with lacking documentation, may be rejected. Applicants who fail to produce the required documentation before and after a visa has been granted, will be refused a visa. Norway's Schengen-partners will be informed of any visa rejections.

False statements:                                                                                                         Please also note that any false statements will lead to a rejection of the application and to an annulment if a visa already has been granted. The submittment of false statements may also render you liable to prosecution under the law of the Schengen state which deals with the application. Please read paragraph 44 in the Schengen application form carefully.

Tickets:                                                                                                                           DO NOT pay for any tickets before you have been informed that a visa has been granted. Please note that if you buy tickets in advance it will be for your own risk and bill.

Extension:                                                                                                                  Please note that an extension of the visa period can only be granted after entry if unforeseen circumstances outside the applicant’s and the reference’s control arise (such as hospitalisation of the applicant exceeding the period the visa has been granted for) which mean that the applicant has a genuine need to extend the stay.
